The ENVIS Centre on Human Settlements, supported by the MoEF, Govt. of India, has been placed with the Department of Environment Planning, School of Planning & Architecture (SPA).
Objective of this ENVIS Centre
- To Collect retrieve and update information on Human Settlements.
- To identify, design & develop an Environmental Information System on Human Settlements by collection & correlation of various aspects of Human Settlements.
- To communicate and transfer information users to enable them to meet their present and future needs.
- To serve as a partner in the development of integrated Environmental Information System in India and abroad.
- To promote, support and assist education and personnel training programmes designed to enhance awareness and capacity related to Human Settlements.
Activities and Outputs of the ENVIS Centre
- Development of information base related to Human Settlements, collection of information, its storage, retrieved, and dissemination.
- Data collection through field surveys.
- Procurement of maps: District & Town Level.
- Evaluate and periodic updating of website (http://spaenvis.nic.in)
- Setting up of ENVIS Library.
- Publication of bi-annual Journal and quarterly Newsletter highlighting various aspects.
- Compilation of Human Settlement database and Digital Data in the form of City CD.
The ENVIS Centre on Human Settlements periodically updates its mailing list.
